Cylinder beads of various colors of faience, or earthenware with a tin-based glaze. These are marked as coming from the Second Intermediate Period - Dynasty XVII (circa 1648 - 1295 B.C.E.). As I draw, I wonder at numbering Egyptian dynasties with Roman numerals. I wonder if the overwhelming heat in the Walton Hall of Ancient Egypt is meant to evoke the experience of Egypt - after all, the Hall of Arctic Life is generally chilly. I decide to let my composition be asymmetrical, as suits my mood, and when I am done sketching and painting, I join my daughter on a bench to watch the end of a short video about pyramids. There are others, and she would watch them all, but the museum is within minutes of closing. Another day.
