bonehunters' quarry

At the interactive dig, children (or adults) are issued with chisel, goggles, and a brush, and may scrape away at the matrix to reveal replica fossils. The surface is some kind of combination of wax(?) and sand - it comes away with steady work. Some children (mine) will happily spend a very long time working here in order to uncover another four or five inches of bone - allowing me time to paint from life. There are benches for waiting adults, and a beautiful backdrop photo of Dinosaur National Monument in Utah.
